Shifting gears in maintenance and mobility
In these trying times mobility is essential in order for us to acquire the resources we need. With just a few clicks services or commodities can get into our door step right away.
Far way convenient on a business to consumer perspective but if we take a closer look on the production side, how are these machines and equipment maintained in order to produce commodities and deliver services?
In a car rental service for example, the operations lead was task to complete a preventive maintenance schedule for all 193 vehicles in 21 different locations. Given these constraints plus a standard working schedule of 4 working days, the task has to be completed in 4-weeks.
The challenge here is the community restrictions and availability of vehicles as to not disrupt client operations in order to distribute the supplies and perform preventive maintenance repairs needed in all 21 areas. Manpower, man hours, supplies and materials are set standard.
For the 4-week period, based on a standard schedule for time and location, the operations team was not able to meet the target due that some vehicles are inside the repair shop waiting for repairs.
The team’s performance was quite impressive having a high inspection and repair rate.
In one way or the other, though the target was not met, it is possible to have a mobile repair shop the very same service that the operations team have done. The team was able to have multiple tasks done more than the scheduled task. The team was able to save on labor cost that benefit the company
